coVERAGE FOR ALL
In The Shield, we work hard to cover all things happening, both big and small. Coming from a school that focuses on high achieving extra curriculars like sports and the arts, it is easy for the under represented clubs and groups to get lost in the mix. Some of our spreads include coverage of things like Westside Unified, Sparkles Cheer, Black Student Leadership Council, World Language Classes, Bilingual Students, Global Warming, Foreign Exchange Students, Dance Marathon, Hope Squad, E-Sports and more!
We also have a rule that once someone is covered in the book 3 times, we cannot put them in again unless it is necessary. Many times, when someone is highly involved in one thing, they are involved in many things. That can cause repetitive coverage and we try to involve as many students as possible.
As a publication, our staff members are involved in a number of different clubs, sports and activities which helps us when finding things to cover. The diversity among our staff helps shed light on all aspects of our school.
